Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer worldwide. It typically grows slowly and rarely spreads to other parts of the body, but it can grow deep into surrounding tissue if left untreated.

It most often develops on skin with repeated, long-term sun exposure, commonly the head, neck, and upper body. Outcomes are excellent when caught and treated early.
