Chemical peels use a controlled solution to remove damaged outer layers of skin, improving tone, texture, and some types of discoloration or acne. Depth and downtime range from a quick 'lunchtime peel' to deeper treatments requiring more recovery.

Because at-home peel products have caused serious injuries, the FDA and AAD recommend having peels performed only under the supervision of a trained provider.
